Summary: This page explains what data is processed when you use the TELS (English Level Tests) web application, why it is processed, and what choices you have.
1) Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the TELS – English Level Tests website and related sub-pages (e.g., the test interface).
2) Data we process
The application is designed to work without requiring registration or membership. However, to provide and improve the service, the following types of data may be processed:
- Device/session identifiers: A device identifier generated locally in your browser
(e.g.,
elt_device_id) and a test attempt identifier. - Test interactions: Events such as test start/section start/answered question, time-out, and test completion.
- Answers and results: Your answers, scores (Reading/Listening/Total), and level estimate.
- Technical data: Standard server log data such as IP address, date-time, and browser information (depending on the server infrastructure).
3) Local storage (LocalStorage)
The application may store data in your browser using LocalStorage, such as a device ID, previous scores,
and results (e.g., elt_previous_scores, elt_results, elt_activity_log).
This data is stored in your browser; it can be removed when you clear browser data or when you use the “Delete My Data” option inside the app.
4) Sending events to the server
During a test session, some events may be sent to the server in JSON format (e.g., the api.php?action=event endpoint).
These transmissions are made to operate the service, debug issues, ensure security, and improve quality.
5) Cookies and advertising technologies
The page may include third-party advertising services such as Google AdSense. These services may use cookies or similar technologies for:
- Serving and measuring ads,
- Detecting fraud/abuse,
- Personalized ads (where applicable and based on your preferences)
.
6) Measurement / tags
The page may include tagging/measurement code such as Google tag (gtag.js) (e.g., ad conversion measurement). Such tags may also use cookies or similar identifiers.
7) Why we process data
- To provide the service (run the test, calculate and display results)
- To improve user experience (debugging, performance, content improvements)
- Security (preventing abuse)
- Ad serving and measurement (if applicable)
8) Data sharing
Your data may be shared only to the extent necessary to provide the service and with the following parties:
- Advertising/measurement providers: Third parties such as Google (if ads/tagging are used).
- Hosting/infrastructure: Server and security infrastructure providers (for logs and technical operations).
9) Retention
Local data may remain in your browser until you delete it. Server-side records are kept only as long as needed for the relevant purpose and may then be deleted or anonymized.
10) Your rights and choices
- You can manage/delete cookies in your browser settings,
- You can delete local data inside the app (“Delete My Data”),
- Under applicable laws (e.g., GDPR/KVKK where relevant), you may have rights such as access, correction, deletion, and objection.
11) Children’s privacy
This service is not designed for children. Users under 13 are advised not to use it without parental supervision.
12) Policy changes
